The goal of this course is to help students to recognize the concept of interpretation and to mention the role of the translator as an interpreter to be able to apply knowledge of key features of different discourses and the basic translating strategies in actual literary, social and political texts.
This course aims at studying the
• Criteria of a good translation:
• 1) Correctness:
• Correctness linguistically and in terms of meaning.
• Students are expected to render their translation in English and Arabic observing spelling, structure and punctuation marks.
• 2) Accuracy: Choosing the best equivalents of words in terms of words and structure.
• 3) Observing the tone of the passage such as satire, mockery and seriousness.
• 4) Creativity in translation:
• The translation looks like an original piece of writing without losing the elements in the source text.
