The Assessment of Learning course aims to provide students with foundational knowledge of educational assessment and its vital role in enhancing the learning process. It begins with an introduction to learning—its definitions, theories, significance, and connection to educational objectives—followed by a focus on assessment concepts, distinguishing between assessment, evaluation, and measurement. The course explores psychological measurement and its levels, as well as the various domains of educational assessment, including the student, teacher, curriculum, and instruction. It covers different types of assessment such as diagnostic, formative, and summative, and examines various methods of psychological and educational measurement. Students learn about the characteristics and development of effective tests, types of questions (objective and essay), and how to assess cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning outcomes. The course also addresses modern trends in assessment, including alternative assessment, portfolios, computer-based testing, question banks, and the concept and importance of self-assessment as a tool for reflection and continuous improvement.
