This course aims to provide students with a general basis of chemistry. General chemistry introduce students to the language and methodology of chemical science and to provide them with the tools necessary to understand the teachings of chemistry through the study of nature's elements and their chemical compounds as well as the examination of chemical reactions and their relative parameters.

Foundations of Botany
About the course:
The course is concerned with the student’s cognitive study of the characteristics of life in terms of organization and cells, response to stimuli, evolutionary adaptation, energy use, growth and development, reproduction and internal balance giving examples of model plants.
The major topics of the course are the following
1) The types of plant tissues with reference to the suitability of the plant cell and tissue structures for their functions
2) The laws of general genetics as well as genes and their transmission in mitotic and meiosis cell divisions and mutations
3) The concept of modern classification systems and general characteristics and examples of the kingdoms of protists, fungi, plants as well as the prokaryotes and viruses and the foundations of binary nomenclature of plants as well as other living organisms
4) The external morphology of plants particularly types and shapes of roots, stems and leaves and their modifications, as well as flower structure
