Beni Hassan is situated south of Al-Menia and its name came from “Beni Hassan Arabs” who settled in the 18th dynasty. Beni Hassan consists of 39 middle kingdom tomb-chapels of the rulers of Beni-Hassan. Only 12 are decorated and many are unfinished. These tombs are rock-cut tombs and have very important wall paintings and architectural elements. The wealth of these tombs proves that the families of the local rulers had become almost powerful as the kings.
