Physics and mathematics of wave motion discus many important phenomena. Sound wave, water wave on the sea and the vibration of a violin string can all be described. Light, often displays properties that are wave-like. We will go through the course looking at "nature of light, but then pause for a general treatment of waves of all types. We will start this course by reviewing ideas of oscillations and simple harmonic motion, and go on to look at the physics of traveling and standing waves. We will consider a number of phenomena in which the wave properties of light are important. In this lecture course we will look at basic ideas of light propagation, geometrical optics (imaging) and some of the many uses in our daily life.
