Developing as an educator requires both theoretical knowledge and opportunities to apply these ideas in a clinical experience. Building on their role as learners in the transdisciplinary and disciplinary courses, practicum 5 will focus on the candidates moving from being a learner to facilitating the learning of others to deepen student understanding and critical thinking. Learning Assistants (LAs) support student learning through research-validated teaching and learning pedagogical techniques.

In this course, teacher trainees apply the learning theory and research to the design of instruction with focus on deep conceptual understanding based on STEM education learning cycle, including the use of the backward design model and its main components, such as learning outcomes, ongoing assessment, outcome-based approach to learning, and how to use this course in planning units, lessons and daily practices.
