This course explores the critical role of organic chemistry in public health and drug development. Students will study the structure and function of both naturally occurring and synthetic compounds, gaining insights into their applications in tackling diseases. Key areas include drug mechanisms, synthesis of therapeutic compounds, and how chemical properties can be manipulated to create cost-effective treatments. Through practical labs and theoretical learning, participants will develop skills in scientific reasoning, problem-solving, and the latest approaches in medicinal chemistry, such as combinatorial synthesis and nano-formulations.
