Application Requirements

In order for students to obtain a diploma in environmental sciences, it is required that:

  • He must hold a bachelor’s or BA from an Egyptian university, or an equivalent degree from another recognized scientific institute from the university, provided that he is registered in the scientific department corresponding to the first university degree, with the exception of the Department of Educational Sciences and Environmental Media; Students who have a bachelor’s or bachelor’s degree from an Egyptian university or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the university are accepted in all disciplines to study the diploma.
  • The student submits the approval of the employer to facilitate attendance of lectures and carry out the necessary scientific research.
  • The Faculty council determines the number of students accepted for enrollment in the diploma for each department of the Faculty at the beginning of each academic year.
  • The duration of study for the Diploma in Environmental Sciences is a university year that consists of two semesters (each of 15 weeks), each of which ends with an exam. The number of units for each course ranges from two to three theoretical hours per week. A theoretical hour may be converted into two hours of practical training for any course based on A request from the department council and the approval of the Faculty council.
  • The study in the first semester is general for all majors, Table No. (1). Then, students are distributed in the second semester according to their majors in the first university degree to the scientific departments of the Faculty.
  • A written examination is held for academic courses at the end of each semester, and the duration of each written examination is two hours. After the approval of the department council and the approval of the Faculty council, a maximum of 20% of the final grade for each course may be allocated for the course of the year at the request of the subject professor and the approval of the department council.
  • The student passes the environmental applications course, whose topics are determined by the Faculty Council.
  • The application for registration for the master’s stage is twice a year, and the Faculty council determines the number of students accepted for enrollment in the master’s degree in the departments of the Faculty for each semester. The conditions for enrollment in the master’s degree in environmental sciences are as follows:
    • Obtaining a bachelor’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with a grade of “good” at least from one of the Egyptian universities, or an equivalent degree from another recognized scientific institute and in a specialization compatible with one of the Faculty’s specializations, or to have obtained a diploma from the Faculty with a grade of at least “good” or on An equivalent diploma in environmental sciences with a grade of at least good, provided that it is registered in the scientific department corresponding to the first university degree, with the exception of the Department of Educational Sciences and Environmental Media; Students who have a bachelor’s or a bachelor’s degree from one of the faculties of education or teacher preparation are accepted to study for a master’s degree, which includes: Education / Specific Education / Art / Sports (curriculum specialization) as well as graduates of Facultys and departments of media, tourism and hotels (tourism and tourist guidance) provided that they obtain an estimate At least one year (good). Students are also accepted to study with a master’s degree who have a bachelor’s degree or a bachelor’s degree from all disciplines, provided that it is preceded by a general diploma in education, media or a diploma in environmental sciences, the Department of Educational Sciences from the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, with a grade of at least good.
    • To accept students to study at the Faculty, the student must submit the approval of the employer to facilitate attendance of lectures and carry out the necessary scientific research.
    • Passing a written and oral qualification exam in the principles of environmental sciences (as determined by the Faculty Council).
    • The student is enrolled after fulfilling the aforementioned conditions mentioned in the previous clauses and after the student successfully passed the compulsory subjects exam. The title of the master’s thesis is registered with a maximum of two years from the date of approval by the Faculty Council on the student’s enrollment. The thesis is not allowed to be registered after this date, and the student’s enrollment is canceled in case the student is not registered. Registration is on time, and the student prepares the research plan and is discussed in the relevant department (a panel discussion) in the presence of the supervisory committee proposed to the student. Oath on it in preparation for submission to the Graduate Studies Committee and then the Faculty Council.
  • A student registered to obtain a master’s degree in environmental sciences studies at least 24 theoretical hours per week of courses distributed as follows:
    • theoretical hours at least weekly, unified compulsory courses for all students of the department, and the concerned department selects these courses from the list of compulsory courses for the department (the first group) and they are presented to the Faculty council for approval.
    • At least 12 theoretical hours per week from the elective courses of the relevant department (the second group) and from outside it according to the nature of the research, and at least 4 theoretical hours per week from outside the department, suggested by the student’s supervisor and approved by the department council and the Faculty council.
  • Studying the following courses is compulsory for students enrolled in a master’s degree:
    • Computer (as determined by the Faculty Council).
    • Methods of preparing and writing scientific research "1".
    • discussions
    • English language (according to university requirements).
    • Evaluate the environmental impact of the projects (as determined by the Faculty Council).
    • Scientific writing (according to university requirements).
    • International publication (according to university requirements).
  • A written examination is held for the academic courses at the end of each semester, and the duration of each written examination is two hours. After the approval of the department council and the approval of the Faculty council, it is permissible to allocate at most 20% of the final grade for each course for the work of the year
  • The Faculty Council may, upon the request of the supervisor and the approval of the relevant department council, assign the student to study courses that are not available to be taught in the Faculty (regarding elective courses and courses from outside the department) in another Faculty or scientific institute recognized by the university.
  • It is not permissible to delete or replace any of the courses that were previously specified when the student is enrolled, except in the case of changing the subject of the study, provided that this is not considered a new registration
  • A course or other courses to be studied by the student may be added based on the proposal of the supervisor and the approval of the relevant department council after the approval of the Faculty council.
  • Courses will be taught for a semester (15 per week), and courses may be taught for each of the first and second semesters, according to the number of students, after the approval of the Faculty Council based on the approval of the relevant department council.
  • The student must pass the academic courses with a grade of (good) at least three months before the formation of the judging committee for the thesis.
  • Every six months, the student's supervisor submits a report to the department council on the student's progress in his research to be submitted to the Faculty council.
  • The master student submits his thesis for examination and discussion within a period of no less than two years and not exceeding four years from the date of approval of the student’s enrollment by the Faculty Council. For another maximum period of two additional years at most, by a decision of the Faculty council and based on the request of the supervisor and the approval of the department council.
  • The Faculty Council, based on the supervisor’s proposal and the approval of the relevant department council, may suspend the student’s enrollment for a maximum period of two consecutive or separate academic years during his enrollment period if he presents an acceptable excuse that prevents him from attending to study and research, and in case of necessity, the student’s enrollment may be suspended for a third year with the approval of the university.
  • The application for admission to the PhD level is twice a year, and the following is required for the student to register:
    • Obtaining a master’s degree in environmental sciences from the Faculty, or its equivalent from one of the universities, with a grade of at least good, preceded by the student’s obtaining the first university degree with a grade of at least good, or a diploma of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research with a grade of at least good. For students who obtain a master’s degree from outside the Faculty without a grade, the average score for the introductory, qualifying, or accompanying subjects for obtaining the degree shall be with a general grade of at least good.
    • Students who have obtained a master's degree from outside the Faculty must pass a qualifying test (written and oral) in the principles of environmental sciences (as determined by the Faculty Council annually).
    • The student is enrolled to study for a PhD in Environmental Sciences in the department corresponding to the first university degree and the master’s degree.
    • The student’s enrollment is after fulfilling the above-mentioned conditions, and after the student successfully passes the compulsory subjects, the thesis is registered within two years at most from the date of approval of the student’s enrollment by the Faculty Council. It is not allowed to register the thesis after this date and the student’s registration is canceled in case of failure to register on the date The aforementioned and the student prepares the research plan and it is discussed in a panel discussion held by the department in the presence of the supervisory committee proposed to the student. Then the student submits his registration papers through the relevant department accompanied by the research plan, the supervision committee and the list of elective courses.
  • A student registered to obtain a PhD in Environmental Sciences studies at least 30 hours per week of academic courses distributed as follows:
    • (14) theoretical hours at least weekly, unified compulsory courses for all students of the department. The concerned department selects these compulsory courses from the list of compulsory courses for the department (the first group) and they are presented to the Faculty council for approval.
    • (16) theoretical hours per week at least from the elective courses of the relevant department (the second group) or from outside it, according to the nature of the research, with no less than (4) theoretical hours per week from outside the department, suggested by the thesis supervisor and approved by the department council and the Faculty council .
  • Studying the following courses for students enrolled in a PhD degree:
    • Computer applications "2" (as determined by the Faculty Council).
    • Methods of preparing and writing scientific research "2".
    • discussions
    • English language (according to university requirements).
    • Evaluate the environmental impact of the projects (as determined by the Faculty Council).

  • A course or other courses to be studied by the student may be added after the approval of the Faculty Council and upon the proposal of the supervisor and the approval of the relevant department council
  • The courses will be taught for a semester (15 per week), and courses may be taught for both the first and second semesters according to the students’ need after the approval of the Faculty Council based on the approval of the relevant department board.
  • At the end of each academic year, the student’s supervisor submits a report to the department council on the student’s progress in his research and academic courses for submission to the Faculty council.
  • The student must pass the academic courses with a grade of (good) at least three months before the formation of the judging committee for the thesis.
  • The doctoral student submits his thesis for examination and discussion within a period of not less than two years and not exceeding five years from the date of the approval of the Faculty Council to register the subject of the thesis. In case of necessity, it may be extended for another two years at most by a decision of the Faculty Council and at the request of the supervisor and the approval of the Department Council.
