Biochemical genetics is a branch of genetics that deals with the chemical structure of the genes and with the mechanisms by which the genes control and regulate the structure and synthesis of proteins. It studies the relationship of genes and their control over the function of enzymes in biochemical pathways.
Overall Aim of Course:

This course is aimed to introduce the student to the key concepts and the different branches in biotechnology; To teach the students about the structure, function and growth kinetics and measurements of microorganisms as a primary biotechnology tools. To teach the applications of biotechnology with special emphasis on the fundamental principles of handling and manipulating DNA in different organisms; To discuss the techniques for isolating genes and the subsequent engineering of these genes; To emphasize on the way engineered genes may be used to create transgenic animals and plants or to produce recombinant proteins in cell factories.
